India to Host 16th International Energy Forum Meet
24 January 2018 Current Affairs: The 16th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial meeting will be held in New Delhi in April 2018.
According to the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, the meeting will be hosted by Government of India in New Delhi and co-hosted by the Government of China and South Korea.
Representatives from 92 countries will be participating in the conference, including 72 member countries of IEF and 20 guest countries.
Lifter Rakhi Halder created a new national record
Lifter Rakhi Halder created a new national record in clean and jerk to a gold medal in the 63kg women’s category in the 33rd Women Senior National Weightlifting Championships, in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
Rakhi lifted 128kgs in the clean and jerk for a total of 230kgs to create a new national record, bettering Karnam Malleswari’s feat (127kg) created in Athens in 1999.
NIIF Makes its First Investment Partnered with DP World
The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) made its First investment. NIIF has partnered with DP World to create an investment platform for ports, terminals, transportation and logistics businesses in India.
The first close of the NIIF Master Fund took place in October 2017 with contributions from a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and four Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs), namely HDFC Group, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Life and Axis Bank. An India-UK Green Growth Equity Fund (GGEF) is also being set-up under the fund of funds vertical of NIIF and shall have anchor commitments of GBP 120 million each from Government of India (through NIIF) and Government of UK.
Rachel Morrison 1st Oscar nominated female cinematographer
Rachel Morrison has become the first female cinematographer to receive an Oscar nomination in the 89-year-old history of the Awards. She has been nominated for her work in the film ‘Mudbound’. “The job of the cinematographer is to visualise emotion – things we as women are inherently good at,” said Rachel while speaking about her nomination.
First International Dam Safety Conference held in Thiruvananthapuram
The first International Dam Safety Conference-2018 was held in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) from January 23-24, 2018.
It was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and was presided over by Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal.
This Conference is fourth in series organized under the aegis of ongoing Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP).
It was organized jointly by Central Water Commission (CWC), Kerala Water Resources Department (KWRD), National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC), and College of Engineering.
A software programme known as Dam Health and Rehabilitation Monitoring Application (DHARMA) was also launched to document authentic asset.
World Economic Forum Summit in Switzerland Concludes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home after concluding his visit to Davos, Switzerland.
During the visit, the Prime Minister delivered a keynote address at the plenary session of the 48th annual meeting of World Economic Forum.
He became the first Indian prime minister in two decades to join the world’s top business leaders in the Swiss resort town of Davos.
He outlined climate change, terrorism and protectionism as three global threats.
He also met his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau. Both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to stand firm in combating terrorism.
He also held a meeting with Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and discussed steps to deepen the bilateral relationship.
At the end, He interacted with top global CEOs at the International Business Council event.
India inks $120 million loan agreement with World Bank to fund improved water supply in Uttarakhand
India signed $120 millionloan agreement with multilateral lending agency World Bank to help increase access to improved water supply services in in peri-urban areas in Uttarakhand.
The agreement was signed between Government of India, Government of Uttarakhand and World Bank Board.
The loan amount will be used for Uttarakhand Water Supply Program for Peri-Urban Areas to help the state to increase water supply coverage as well as ensure sustainable water supply service delivery in peri-urban areas.
The program will develop and implement service-oriented and efficient water supply for peri-urban areas, strengthen current monitoring and evaluation systems.
It will also provide dedicated incentives for preparation and adoption of of water supply ‘master-plans’ in peri-urban areas.
Andhra Pradesh and Zurich Sign Sister State Agreement
The Andhra Pradesh Government and the Canton of Zurich signed a letter of intent, to promote mutual prosperity and development.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu and Government Counselor Minister Carmen Walker Spah for sister state relation.
This will bring the State of Andhra Pradesh and Canton of Zurich closer and ensure that a framework is created, which supports the exchange between both the parties.
Shah Rukh Khan Honoured with Crystal Award at World Economic Forum
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan honored with the 24th Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
According to the WEF, Shah Rukh Khan received Award for “his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India”.
He received the award alongside Elton John and Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett.
AYUSH Minister Lays Foundation Stone for Homeopathy Research Institute in Jaipur
The Minister of State (IC), for AYUSH, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik laid the foundation stone for Central Research Institute (CRI) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
This will be the third CRI under the aegis of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH).
In his address during the stone laying ceremony, Sh. Naik stated that Ministry of AYUSH is determined towards a focused infrastructural push to Homoeopathy and other systems of AYUSH.
